Luke 13:10-17
(Luke 13:10-17)
And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. And, behold, there was a woman which
had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in
no wise lift up herself. And
when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art
loosed from thine infirmity. And
he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified
God. And the ruler of the
synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the
sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to
work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day. The Lord then answered him, and said,
Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass
from the stall, and lead him away to watering? And ought not this woman, being a
daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed
from this bond on the sabbath day? And when he had said these things, all his
adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious
things that were done by him.
On the
Sabbath, Jesus healed the sick, healed the withered hands, and expelled demons
from the body of the possessed. The Jews accused Jesus of not doing such things
on the Sabbath.
In about 1500
BC, God gave the Israelites the law on Mount Sinai. The Israelites lived by
keeping the law until Jesus came. By the way, Jesus came to this world, and
they did not know the meaning of the Sabbath. When Jesus died on the cross, in
John 19:30, ``When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is
finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. 』What did Jesus accomplish? He said that the law had been fulfilled.
As it was said that the law was until the days of John, the law was fulfilled
by Jesus' death to the law. However, the Israelites thought that they would
keep the law and achieve righteousness because God told them to keep it
thoroughly. God told Israel to keep the law, but when he tried to keep the law,
he realized that humans are a sinner who could not be kept, and he told them to
find Christ. When Jesus came, he firmly believed that they would become
righteous by keeping the law.
In Galatians 3:23-24,
『But before faith came, we were kept under the law,
shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. Wherefore the law
was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by
faith. 』
The reason the Israelites
did not find Christ in the law was because they did not receive the faith to be
revealed. The faith to be revealed is the fact that Jesus Christ is the Lord of
the Sabbath (Messiah). Since the Lord of the Sabbath came to this world and
completed the law, those who are in Christ are also the fulfillment of the law.
That is why we always rest in Christ. Saints do not keep the Sabbath and rest,
but because they always rest in Christ, there is no need for such an act of
keeping the Sabbath. By the way, the Israelites still say that they must
observe the Sabbath. They don't think of Jesus as the Messiah.
Human beings came to
live in this world because of the false idea that in the kingdom of God,
spirits can follow Satan's delusions and become like God. In the kingdom of
God, wicked angels were punished by God, took off the curtain of the kingdom of
God, and put on the veil of the dust of this world and became humans. So beings
in this world have no rest. God created the heavens and the earth and rested on
the seventh day. It means to humans that you are the ones without rest, so you
must realize it and find rest on the seventh day, and what the Law said to keep
rest is to realize that humans are without rest. So, God is telling the people
to find Christ as the Lord of rest in the law. This is the sign of the
covenant. The covenant is to redeem those who are in Christ through Christ.
Redemption is fundamentally turning those under Satan's power to God.
In Exodus 31:13,
Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye
shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations;
that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you. In Exodus 31:17,
``It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days
the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was
refreshed. 』
In the kingdom of
God, God rests. However, there is no rest during the six days that God creates.
This is because it was necessary to create a material world because of Satan's
sin in the kingdom of God. So, by entering the Sabbath on the seventh day, God
is telling humans that there is no rest in this world. To enter into rest is to
be sanctified. Most people think of rest as a concept of rest.
Rest is not a concept
of rest, but a step away from sin and into God.
Christ is the master of rest. So those who are in Christ are also at rest.
Since Jesus is the master of the Sabbath, there is no such thing as to keep the
Sabbath. So, since Jesus is the subject of the Sabbath, it is natural to heal
the sick and drive out demons on the Sabbath. Even today, if you say that the
church is in Christ and you say that you must keep the Sabbath, the church does
not know the meaning of the Sabbath. So it means they are in a state of
restlessness. Today, there are people who have made Sunday as a substitute for
the Sabbath, and there are those who say that it must be observed as the law,
and we can think of the same concept.
