Luke 14:12-24

(Luke 14:12-24)

Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee. But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.  And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.  Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:  And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.  And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused. And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.  So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.  And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room. And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.  For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.

Jesus spoke embarrassing words to the person who invited him. He told the inviter not to invite acquainted relatives or rich people to dinner. It is because the invited people may later invite them again as a token of gratitude. He said it was very scary to be invited again, that is, to be rewarded. He was asked to invite the poor and the disabled to give a feast. Those people are blessed because they don't have the ability to pay back. No one thinks literally of these words of Jesus.

Those who feel spiritually full of the fact that we have received life as a gift from God live fully satisfied without receiving what we expected from others. Even if a person gives to whom, he forgets the fact that he gave. It is the fact that we have come to know that the life that saves the spirit is a gift from God. Those who are in Jesus Christ practically experience heavenly life. Liberation from sin and death is such an experience. Through the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the saints learned that regeneration is both a gift from God and a new life. The saint is like a bride waiting for the groom to come. Since the spiritual marriage feast is ahead, we will not be upset even if we do not have a low seat or reward for our giving.

Since those invited to the feast have nothing to repay, the text says that they are blessed because they receive a completely different level of repayment: And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just. The resurrection pointed out here means that the physical body dies and is reborn as the spirit body. That is, the saints receive the gift of God's grace. Most church people tend to link the resurrection to the end of the world, the Second Coming of Jesus. Resurrection is the present resurrection. It is not resurrected by the death of the body, but resurrection by the death of the physical body (old man). So, although there is a body received from the parents, the inner attribute is changed to another being.
