Luke 12:51-53
(Luke 12:51-53)
Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I
tell you, Nay; but rather division: For from henceforth there shall be five in
one house divided, three against two, and two against three. The father shall
be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against
the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against
her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
The Bible says that
Jesus is the king of peace, but he said, "I didn't come to bring
peace." He said he came to bring his sword. In most churches, for example,
in the home, believers and non-believers are mixed, resulting in discord. Even
if it is not so wrong, it cannot be considered a complete interpretation because
100% of such assumptions do not occur. And we can see that discord arises even
within the church that believes.
The purpose of Jesus'
coming into this world is to save sinners and to redeem sinners under the law.
The word "Jesus came to give the sword" should be understood in the
same context as "He came to rescue sinners." Jesus was called the
King of Peace, but he came as the King of Peace, mediating peace between God
and sinners, not peace and peace. In other words, he came to give peace between
God and human enemies. It is to break down the enemy relationship and become
the king of peace by coming for reconciliation between God and humans. These
words of Jesus become discord in the world.
He is telling the
Israelites that Jesus came to give him a sword. The sword is the word of God,
and it was not given to the Gentiles, but was given to the Israelites. The
discord that Jesus is talking about does not mean a fight, but a separation.
When Jesus died on the cross, he took away the sins of the world and said,
"It is finished." In other words, the word of God's promise has been
fulfilled. These words are for the Israelites. Because God gave the law to the
Israelites, he said, "God has fulfilled all the law through me (Jesus) on
the cross."
